KOSOVSKA MITROVICA Representatives of four Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo have stepped up watch duties at risky locations due to increased presence of ROSU units. Leposavic Mayor Dragisa Vasic has said that increased presence and movement of Kosovo police special units (ROSU) has been noticed in the last several days, causing concern among the local Serbs. Serbs step up watchkeeping in northern Kosovo “ROSU are patrolling along roads which Serbs see as a provocation and a possibility that the unit will repeat a forcible entry just like in July 2011 when it tried to take over the north by force,” he stressed. Vasic reiterated that Serbs would not accept integration into the Kosovo authorities’ system “at any cost”. He assessed that an attempt to forcibly integrate them could “escalate and have immense consequences” and warned that nobody would be able to control the people in that case. However, Vasic expressed hope that international security structures, primarily KFOR, would not take the Kosovo institutions’ side like in 2004 and that they will respect the mandate given to them in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
