MOSCOW Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said late on Wednesday in Moscow that a new era in relations between Serbia and Russia had started. He added that Serbia would not be alone on the international scene anymore when it comes to Kosovo. PM: New era in Serbo-Russian relations “Russia's president and prime minister have promised they will try to find the best way to resolve the issue of Kosovo and Metohija within their talks with leading world statesmen,” Dacic said in Moscow, where he conferred with the most senior officials of the Russian Federation. "I am confident that this will greatly contribute to making them (leaders of EU countries and the U.S.) see that we have someone behind us, because it seemed that Serbia is alone on the international scene, surrounded with countries that are either members of NATO or are heading towards NATO or the EU," the prime minister told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). Asked whether there were some talks about the possibility for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to be UN-brokered again, he said this could not be achieved easily. "We have to be honest and sincere. We transferred the problem to the EU without asking or consulting Russia. It would not be fair to think that someone is able to get it back to the UN easily," Dacic noted. Earlier on Wednesday, he told Belgrade-based Pink TV that now was a very important period for diplomatic relations between Serbia and Russia and for trust building. "Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev have not said a word about having a doubt whether Serbia should head towards the EU or not. They keep saying this is our choice, but this does not mean we should forget that Russia is our greatest and first friend. This is our official policy," Dacic concluded. “Russia supports Serbia’s stance on Kosovo and Metohija but believes that solving of the issue is Serbs’ privilege,” Medvedev said.
