BELGRADE Serbian government's media office chief Milivoje Mihajlovic has said that "a crisis in Kosovo may even suit the West." Mihajlovic spoke for B92 on Tuesday as the Kosovo dialogue continues in Brussels, and said that the goings-on in the dialogue "do not depend on Belgrade and Pristina as much as on the EU and the U.S." "Crisis in Kosovo may suit Western countries" Should the negotiations fail, this government official asserted, "it will be the failure of the EU and the U.S." He also stated that Serbs in Kosovo "have been living in fear for 14 years," and added: "They must be explained what Serbia can and cannot do." According to him, the authorities in Belgrade "do not have a lot of influence on the situation in Kosovo." Mihajlovic thinks that Pristina's ambitions are equal to those of Belgrade, but that "the situation must be viewed realistically in order to be able to live peacefully." "If the dialogue does not take place," said he, it will not be the end of the world - "but it is important that it continues regardless." "I think both sides, and especially the third side (EU) must realize that only a just solution can lead to some kind of lasting peace," he said. Mihajlovic explained that the Serbian government was determined to continue the dialogue: "We are ahead of a fateful decision, we know the price of accepting and the price of not accepting." According to him, even if an agreement were to be reached, "a long period of implementation would follow.": Mihajlovic also said it was "a good message" that Vucic was in Brussels today, and that the message was that "the government was united, but also that Vucic was an additional guarantee that the agreement reached would be respected."
