BELGRADE Srbijagas General Director Dusan Bajatovic dismissed claims on Tuesday that there had been any criminal activities in business dealings of that company. Bajatovic - an official of the ruling Socialist Party (SPS) who heads the public natural gas company - underscored that the company operated in a good and transparent way and that no state funds were misused. Srbijagas director denies "misuse of state funds" In a live broadcast on Belgrade-based TV Pink, Bajatovic says that the state auditor did an excellent job when analyzing the company's business dealings and that is nothing new for him, but that company officials were dissatisfied with the outcome of the report. It is not true that RSD 46 billion (around EUR 412 million) were paid without adequate procedure, he underlines, noting that there were no money laundering, or inflated invoices in the business dealings of Srbijagas which has a turnover of EUR 1-1.5 billion. Bajatovic says that for his work he could be held accountable by the government, which could replace him, but stresses that Serbia's current gas price is contrary to the agreement, as it is still 15 percent lower than the market one, that is the reason why the company is operating with a loss. The Srbijagas general manager notes that there are various lobbies- international, within the government and business circles - as they are not pleased with what the company is doing. Commenting on the 2011 audit of financial reports and business procedures of Srbijagas, Minister of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection Zorana Mihajlovic voiced expectation that the prosecution would check Srbijagas's business dealings, saying she is surprised over results of the audit in Srbijagas, especially because only charges were stipulated for irregularities amounting to RSD 46 billion. The State Audit Institution (DRI) pressed charges to the Magistrate Court in Novi Sad, requesting that proceedings be instituted against Srbijagas Director Dusan Bajatovic due to his failure to abide by certain provisions of the Public Procurement Law Within a time frame of 90 days, the Srbijagas public enterprise will correct all irregularities from the auditor's report, "in cooperation with the DRI", the company announced earlier.
