Italian ambassador commends fight against corruption

BELGRADE Italian Ambassador to Serbia Armando Varricchio stated on Monday that Italy and Serbia "traditionally cooperate well" in the fight against organized crime. He also commended the Serbian government's efforts in suppressing corruption and organized crime. Italian ambassador commends fight against corruption "Italy strongly supports Serbia's EU prospects," Varricchio said, adding that this support has led to concrete engagement and cooperation in different fields. "When it comes to the fight against organized crime, the traditional bilateral cooperation has expanded to everyday contacts with the EU and other international bodies included in the fight against organized crime," the Italian diplomat said. He was addressing an international seminar in Belgrade, dubbed "The Italian, Bulgarian and Balkan Experience in Investigating, Confiscating and Administering Property Acquired from Criminal Activity". As Varricchio put it, Italy and Serbia cooperate tightly and exchange experience in this area, and the regulation that Serbia adopted in the field of the fight against organized crime is inspired by Italian legislation relating to the fight against mafia. Varricchio also commended the Serbian government's commitment to suppressing corruption and organized crime, and said that Italy gave its full supports to Serbia's authorities in this respect.
