KM: Mayor resigns, local coalition breaks down

Krstimir Pantić has resigned as Kosovska Mitrovica mayor, and said the reason was his appointment as deputy director of the Government Office for Kosovo.

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA Krstimir Pantic has resigned as Kosovska Mitrovica mayor, and said the reason was his appointment as deputy director of the Government Office for Kosovo. Pantic told reporters on Thursday in this northern Kosovo town that the Serbian government appointed him to the position on December 29. KM: Mayor resigns, local coalition breaks down “Under the terms of the legislation on the fight against corruption, which stipulates that no public official can simultaneously hold two public offices, and in line with the relevant law and the time frame laid down by the law, I decided to hand in my resignation as president of the municipality at today's session of the Municipal Assembly,” said Pantic. He added that the new mayor of Kosovska Mitrovica and municipal council members will be elected at the next session of the municipal assembly, within the legally prescribed period, no later than a week from today. Also on Thursday, the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) broke off on ts coalition with the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) in the local assembly. A new local government coalition was formed, made up of the SNS, United Regions of Serbia (URS), Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), the Citizen Initiative Serbia, Democracy, Justice - Oliver Ivanovic and the Party of the United Pensioners of Serbia. The new majority has 17 seats in the local assembly, while the opposition now consists of the DSS and the Democratic Party (DS). “Under the terms of the legislation on the fight against corruption, which stipulates that no public official can simultaneously hold two public offices, and in line with the relevant law and the time frame laid down by the law, I decided to hand in my resignation as president of the municipality at today's session of the Municipal Assembly,” said Pantić.

He added that the new mayor of Kosovska Mitrovica and municipal council members will be elected at the next session of the municipal assembly, within the legally prescribed period, no later than a week from today.

Also on Thursday, the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) broke off on ts coalition with the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) in the local assembly.

A new local government coalition was formed, made up of the SNS, United Regions of Serbia (URS), Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), the Citizen Initiative Serbia, Democracy, Justice - Oliver Ivanović and the Party of the United Pensioners of Serbia.

The new majority has 17 seats in the local assembly, while the opposition now consists of the DSS and the Democratic Party (DS).

The new majority replaced Aleksandar Babinčev of the DSS with Ksenija Božović of the Socialist Democratic Party as president of the municipal assembly.
