BELGRADE Former EU Integration Office Director Tanja Miscevic is a serious candidate for the key negotiator in Serbia's EU accession talks, daily Danas writes. Danas has reported that the greatest number of the government's officials in charge of the EU accession process believe that Miscevic is the best person to lead Serbia's negotiating team in the talks with the EU considering her knowledge and experience in European affairs. “Ex-EU Integration Office head to be lead negotiator” The final decision on Serbia's key negotiator and members of the team will be political, but it will greatly depend on possible elections and shift in power, Danas said. Miscevic told the daily that whoever assumed responsibility for the talks with the EU had to know that this was one of the most difficult coordination tasks which required expertise and great diplomatic skill. Serbia is waiting for the European Council's decision on the date for the beginning of the accession talks in June, the daily said, adding that the government was already preparing the guidelines for the state negotiating structure in charge of this demanding job. The structure for now includes the 2007 system, which was used in the talks with the EU on the Stabilization and Association Agreement, and was drafted according to Slovenia's experience. Following the decision on the date, this structure could easily transform into a negotiating system. The top state body of this structure at the moment is the Coordination Body for the EU Accession Process chaired by Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic. Tanja Miscevic (Beta, file) Tanjug
