BELGRADE Democratic Party (DS) leader Dragan Djilas has called for dissolution of the Serbian parliament and early parliamentary elections. He stated on Saturday that the only realistic solution for the situation the country was in was to immediately dissolve the government and parliament and call early elections. DS leader calls for early parliamentary elections Djilas said that the early elections “do not suit the DS but they do suit Serbia”. “There are two theoretical ways out today and only one of them is realistic. It is to momentarily dissolve the government and call the elections that do not suit the DS that is in a process of reforms, but they suit Serbia,” he told a press conference. According to him, the other solution, which is not realistic, is to hand over the economic sector to “people from the DS” because they “are experts who have proven their knowledge and ability on Belgrade and Vojvodina’s example”. The DS leader stressed that people “live decently only in Belgrade and Vojvodina” and that the DS ran both. “At the top of the DS, that should run the state tomorrow, there are no more people known for making bad moves,” he said. Djilas explained that the DS did not want to topple the government but that it was toppling on its own. He said that the DS did not negotiate on the participation in the government and that it would only join the government with those who were ready to accept its economical plan and start reforms of the election system, judiciary, education system. The DS leader that his country would prefer of the elections were not held this year but that it would be best for the country to call them as soon as possible. “I am trying not to request the elections but they are being imposed as the only possible solution. It is clear that the future government is impossible without the DS and it is clear that the elections will stop the country for several months but they are obviously necessary,” Djilas concluded. B92 has unofficially learnt that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will hold a Presidency meeting on Monday and discuss early elections, among other things.
