BELGRADE Party of Democratic Action of Sandzak (SDA) leader Sulejman Ugljanin’s announcement that he would leave the government has not upset the government. This is according to daily Vecernje novosti that writes that real reasons for Ugljanin’s threats are somewhat different than what he officially said. SDA leader threatens to leave ruling majority Ugljanin warned his coalition partners on Thursday that he would leave the government if an agreement on his party’s participation in the government, that guarantees improvement of Bosniaks’ position in Serbia, was not signed in three days. “I have no motive to be in the government if the situation does not improve,” the minister without portfolio said. He also complained about a difficult economic situation and police and judiciary’s attitude toward Bosniaks. However, Vecernje novosti writes that even if Ugljanin resigns and leaves the ruling coalition, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic’s cabinet will have a comfortable majority of 142 MPs in parliament. Even though Ugljanin said that the signing of the agreement and improvement of the Bosniaks’ position were the official reasons for his complaints, the daily has unofficially learnt that he has other motives as well. According to the daily’s sources, Ugljanin has requested from the coalition partners that his people be named assistants in ministries and directors in public companies. The parties of the ruling coalition claim that they have been and will be a fair partner to the SDA but that some of Ugljanin’s requests are not realistic. According to them, they are ready to discuss the matter with Ugljanin but they will not allow him to blackmail them because they would have the majority in parliament without two SDA MPs. Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) high-ranking official Branko Ruzic is convinced that a compromise is possible. “I see Ugljanin’s statement as a call that points to a need to implement everything that was agreed when the government was formed,” he said. United Regions of Serbia (URS) Spokesman Marko Selakovic says that the government works as a team and solves all misunderstandings through talks. Sulejman Ugljanin (FoNet, file) Vecernje novosti
