He said that people who believed in God were good people, “no matter which temple they pray in”. Nikolic: 2013 will be year of reconciliation The president stressed that Serbia needed much more peace and good life and that it needed the government to start giving people what they needed the most. “Everything after that is upgrading,” Nikolic said. “People who believe in God are good people and in which temple, in which language or how they preach their religion is their personal thing and it comes from the religion they practice. I wish all the best to everybody. Peace from God, Christ is born,” he told Tanjug. He noted that as a president he had an opportunity to sent greetings to members of all religious communities for the biggest holidays but that he liked the best his duty to send Christmas greetings to Christians in accordance with both the Gregorian and Julian calendar. Nikolic pointed out that Serbia would this year host a celebration of the 1,700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan. He added that even ambassadors of Muslim countries had promised to finance a manifestation that would be a part of the celebration and therefore give their contribution to reconciliation of religions in the world, cooperation and common life. When asked what would make him happy as a president this year, Nikolic said: “I will be happy if work on the South Stream starts, if we reach an agreement on Djerdap III hydropower plant and if work on Obrenovac power plant starts, if we find partners for Sartid steel mill and Vardar-Morava channel, if we implement combat against bribery, corruption and crime and if we together fight to keep what is Serbian in Kosovo. I will be satisfied if we have more peace, security, work and happiness and more smiles on faces of children and mothers,” the president concluded. Tomislav Nikolic (Beta, file) Tanjug
