BRUSSELS Serbia’s PM Ivica Dacic and Deputy PM Suzana Grubjesic agree that the EU foreign minister's decision to give Serbia a "a clear timetable“ is good news. Grubjesic told Tanjug that Serbia had been lauded for what it had done because “ the government showed it keeps the promises it makes” and that it had also been encouraged by the fact that “a date for the beginning of the negotiations date will be granted next spring”. “We have reason to be satisfied because we will start the EU accession negotiations in the near future,” she pointed out. Dacic noted that political unity was necessary in order to continue the EU integration process and protect Serbia’s national and state interests. “After many years Serbia got a very positive opinion from the EU with good prospects of starting the membership negotiations in the spring,” he told Tanjug. The prime minster underscored that Serbia had never been closer to the EU and that it had never had support of almost all EU member states. “A very important period is ahead of us in which we will need full political unity and stability in order to continue the EU pathway and at the same protect our national and state interests,” he said. The EU foreign ministers agreed on Tuesday that they would assess whether Serbia has fulfilled the necessary conditions in the spring and that a date for the beginning of the EU talks will be set if the assessment is positive. Grubješić told Tanjug that Serbia had been lauded for what it had done because “ the government showed it keeps the promises it makes” and that it had also been encouraged by the fact that “a date for the beginning of the negotiations date will be granted next spring”.

“We have reason to be satisfied because we will start the EU accession negotiations in the near future,” she pointed out.

Dačić noted that political unity was necessary in order to continue the EU integration process and protect Serbia’s national and state interests.
