Serbian deputy PM "uncertain" about EU talks date

BELGRADE It is "still an open issue whether the Council of Ministers will adopt a conclusion which mentions a date for the beginning of Serbia's EU membership talks". Deputy Serbian prime minister in charge of EU integration Suzana Grubjesic told this to reporters in Brussels on Monday, and added that there were two versions of the draft conclusion of the EU Council of Ministers regarding the date - "one in which a date is mentioned, and the other one in which is not". I sincerely hope that the efforts of this government will be recognized, and that we will get open doors for getting a date for the beginning of the talks,” Grubjesic said. She explained that there was "no conformity about the conclusions", adding that she has both versions of the conclusions. Grubjesic, however, did not want to specify which are the countries in question, but reiterated that the Serbian government has done everything it has promised. “We have to present ourselves in a better way, we have to give more explanations so that they could see that they are dealing with serious politicians in Serbia, who keep their word,” she underlined. The deputy prime minister had bilateral meetings in Brussels on Monday with the foreign ministers of Poland and Italy, and she will meet with foreign ministers of other European countries in the coming days, attend a meeting of the European People's Party (EPP). At the European Council, where a two-day meeting of foreign ministers will kickoff on Monday, Grubješić said there were still "a few countries" opposed to the idea, who believe that Serbia should get a date "only once everything relating to the normalization of relations with Priština is done".

“It is crucial whether the date will be mentioned or not, that is whether Serbia would get a date in June or not. I sincerely hope that the efforts of this government will be recognized, and that we will get open doors for getting a date for the beginning of the talks,” Grubješić said.

She explained that there was "no conformity about the conclusions", adding that she has both versions of the conclusions.

Grubješić, however, did not want to specify which are the countries in question, but reiterated that the Serbian government has done everything it has promised.
