BELGRADE Serbia needs to have the same treatment as other countries in the EU accession process, says Serbian Deputy PM for EU integration Suzana Grubjesic. “Serbia is aware that chances of getting a date for the beginning of the EU negotiations before spring next year are slim but we expect the European Council to recognize both efforts and progress of Serbia in the process of normalization of relations with Pristina,” she said. EU foreign ministers will on Monday decide whether to recommend EU heads of state and prime ministers to grant Serbia a date for the beginning of the EU accession negotiations. The decision on the date should be made by EU heads of state and PM at a summit on Wednesday, based on the recommendation of the foreign ministers. During her visit to Brussels, Grubjesic will have a series of bilateral meetings with EU officials to discuss Serbia’s European future. Among others, she will meet with foreign ministers of Italy, Poland and Estonia and European People's Party (EPP) leader Wilfried Martens. Grubjesic will on December 13 attend the EPP summit together with presidents and prime ministers of EU member states who are members of the biggest European political group, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Polish Prime Minister Donald Dusk, Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy, Slovenian PM Janez Jansa, Swedish PM Fredrik Reinfeldt, Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban. The Serbian deputy PM will present activities of the Serbian government in the EU integration process to her interlocutors and repeat Serbia’s stance that it wants to be a part of the EU for the sake of its citizens but that it needs to have the same treatment as other countries in the integration process. The deputy PM will next week pay an official visit to Brussels where she will meet with top EU officials and foreign ministers, her office has released.

EU foreign ministers will on Monday decide whether to recommend EU heads of state and prime ministers to grant Serbia a date for the beginning of the EU accession negotiations.

The decision on the date should be made by EU heads of state and PM at a summit on Wednesday, based on the recommendation of the foreign ministers.

During her visit to Brussels, Grubješić will have a series of bilateral meetings with EU officials to discuss Serbia’s European future.
