BELGRADE Tomislav Nikolic says Serbia on its EU path represents a factor of stability in the Balkans, and requested "equal treatment", compared to other countries. The Serbian president made the statement during his meeting on Thursday in Belgrade with Michael Spindelegger, the Austrian vice chancellor and foreign minister. Nikolic wants "equal treatment for Serbia" "Serbia is meeting all the criteria for the EU entry for the reasons of its own organization, and not only as a condition for the accession,“ Nikolic said, extending thanks for the support that Austria has been giving to Serbia on its EU path. The Serbian president noted that Austria is the country with which Serbia has intensive cooperation, and the country that has serious investments in Serbia. Spindelegger voiced confidence that Serbia is a stable state, adding that Austria is sparing no effort to ensure that Serbia makes progress on its EU path. The Austrian vice chancellor voiced a positive stand as regards the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, as a condition for Serbia's survival on the EU road. Spindelegger qualified as positive all the efforts that the new government has been putting in the fight against corruption, and concluded tha the fight against corruption is a prerequisite for investors from Austria and creation of jobs for Serbia's faster economic growth.
