BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic met with representatives of northern Kosovo Serbs on Wednesday. The Kosovo Serbs told the president and the prime minister that they would not accept the agreement on the integrated crossing management. Ristic said after the meeting that northern Kosovo Serbs could not accept the implementation of the agreement if it meant that a border would be set up with central Serbia. “We have received assurances from the president and prime minister that they will in the continuation of the technical dialogue try to fix the agreement in the sense that Serbs do not have to take Kosovo documents, change their Serbian license plates and pay customs duties to so-called independent Kosovo,” he told reporters after the 45-minute meeting with Nikolic and Dacic. The representatives of the northern Kosovo municipalities noted they would not cause problems when it comes to the implementation of the agreement on the integrated crossings management if the Serbian authorities managed to make certain changes to the agreement in the continuation of the talks. The representatives of the Kosovo Serbs are opposed to the implementation of the agreement with Pristina that the Serbian government is ready to implement. First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday that the implementation of the agreement would be hard for Serbia and announced talks with representatives of Kosovo Serbs. There have been several incidents in northern Kosovo in the last several days. Unknown attackers fired shots at firemen in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica on Monday and a bomb exploded in the cross-border zone near the Brnjak administrative crossing. After studying the technical document, the municipality heads will speak to the citizens in the north of the province about it publicly, the Serbian president's cabinet said in a release. Nikolic said that Serbia would never recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo, but it would do everything in its power to provide the citizens living there with opportunities for a better life in peace and security. Dacic made the northern Kosovo and Metohija Serb representatives acquainted with the process of implementation of the agreements reached with Pristina to date, primarily concerning the integrated management of the administrative crossings and freedom of movement.
