BELGRADE The Serb Radical Party (SRS) held a protest over Hague Tribunal’s “scandalous” decision to acquit two Croat generals on Saturday. The protest was held in front of the Serbian Presidency building in downtown Belgrade. Radicals stage rally against Hague Tribunal’s decision They called on the Serbian authorities to start taking care of their citizens. SRS deputy leader Nemanja Sarovic said that Serbia had not done anything to help its citizens in the Hague Tribunal since 2000 and that Croatia had spent dozens of millions of euros and hired the best lobbyists and lawyers to protect its citizens. “The Hague Tribunal acquitted Ustasha criminals, before that Naser Oric, soon it will acquit (Ramush) Haradinaj and it never tried criminal like (Alija) Izetbegovic and (Fanjo) Tudjman. Such verdicts do not come as a surprise to anyone anymore,” he added. The SRS official noted that the government’s decision to reduce the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal to a technical level was just a “smoke screen”. The SRS officials and its supporters requested that SRS leader Vojislav Seselj be released from the Hague Tribunal. SRS official Dejan Mitrovic said that the 40-minute rally represented a fight for human rights and that it was not political. The Hague Tribunal’s Appeals Chamber acquitted Croat Generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac of almost all charges for the expulsion of Serbs from Knin Krajina and other crimes during and after Operation Storm in August 1995.
