ZRENJANIN Tomislav Nikolic says Serbia will deal with unemployment, poverty and crime and that the government will resolve the problems accumulated over the past years. "Serbia will deal with unemployment, poverty and crime and develop the energy sector, agriculture, automotive and airline industry. Serbia owes it to its citizens to employ them," the president said at the opening of the new plant of German Draexlmaier Automotive in Zrenjanin, northern Serbia. "I want Serbia to have an environment in which we would be able to say to investors, no matter where in the world we meet, that they can invest in our country calmly and completely safely. The governments in Serbia will change, but the rules established now shall never change," the president said. He stated that the ruling majority has pledged to do something for Serbia, and added that the results are already visible. According to Nikolic, this is not just a political struggle. The government needed to convince investors that their investments will be safe, that there will be no difficulties and that they will be fully protected if they work in accordance with the law. The Serbian president congratulated Draexlmaier Automotive on, as he put it, a wise decision to invest in Serbia and even wiser decision to expand its investments. Nikolic pointed out that, when it comes to business, Serbia acts in keeping with the EU rules, and that the country will not be more stringent for employers than the EU countries, but perhaps even more favorable. The president told the residents of Zrenjanin, who gained another 806 jobs through this investment, that he wants them to have more investments like this one. "I visited Zrenjanin at different times. I remember Zrenjanin in which everyone worked, and then the one in which almost no one had a job, and now I am happy to come to a Zrenjanin in which new jobs are created," Nikolic concluded. The German company has invested EUR six million in the opening of the new plant in Zrenjanin, which will employ 806 people. The investment was "backed with EUR 5,000 for each new job, through a SIEPA's program encouraging direct investments", reports Tanjug. SIEPA is Serbia's Investment and Export Promotion Agency. Draexlmaier Automotive has been operating in Serbia since 2007, and it exports cable sets from Serbia to clients such as BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes and General Motors. The opening of the new plant was also attended by Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic, Minister of Agriculture Goran Knezevic, and the German company's CEO Fritz Draexlmaier.
