BELGRADE The government's success depends on whether it will be able to extricate the country from the trap of European integration, says Vojislav Kostunica. The leader of the opposition DSS party and former Yugoslav president and Serbian prime minister said the integration was used as a tool for the disintegration and impoverishment of the country. "EU trap is test for Serbia's government" "The EU has abused the Serbian people's trust and is directly involved in creation of an independent Kosovo. In the first one hundred days, I have not seen determination and willingness to stop this agony," Kostunica added in an interview for the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. Still, he said the government had shown some positive sides - from fighting crime and corruption to stopping "the detrimental policy that the EU has no alternative." "The first impression is that in these one hundred days, not enough has been done to break away from the former government's policy. The EU has continued blackmailing Serbia with a gradual recognition of Kosovo. The price Serbia needs to pay to join the EU is renouncing Kosovo and everybody understands this now," said the DSS leader. "We must put a full stop on European integration," he said. Asked whether he considered the new government an overall improvement on the previous one, Kostunica said the government led by the Democratic Party "was so disastrous that it is beyond comparison."
