BELGRADE The Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs chair says the Interior Ministry (MUP) will be asked to provide information related to the "wiretapping affair". Dusan Bajatovic, an MP from the ranks of the ruling Socialists (SPS), told reporters in parliament on Monday that after the committee had received this information, he would call a session "that will consider the issue of the security in the country, but also this particular case". Committee "to seek information from MUP" "If it turns out that wiretapping of top officials did take place - of the president and the deputy PM - then that would be a serious breech of security in the country, and would beg the question of what needs to be done in order to resolve it," Bajatovic was quoted as saying. According to him, the scandal showed that the legislation regulating the area needed to be changed in order to "better specify who, in what manner, and in which situations can engage in that activity". Bajatovic added that while the law currently "lists such situations" - it does not provide clear enough procedures that regulate the issue in more detail. He also noted that the MUP and the MoD had submitted their regular reports to the committee, but that the affair was not mentioned, as the reports in question covered an earlier period. According to Bajatovic, it was still too early to discuss the possibility of setting up a special committee that would investigate the case. Earlier on Monday, Police Director Milorad Veljovic said that he would lead an investigation in the case, while First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic told the media in Belgrade on Sunday that "somebody asked for a list of people" that he and Tomislav Nikolic had had conversations with over the phone, but that this list could also have provided them with information about the top officials' movements, "which is crucial for the whole case".
