LJUBLJANA Serbian and Slovenian Foreign Ministers Ivan Mrkic and Karl Erjavec assessed in Ljubljana on Friday that the two countries' relations were “exemplary”. “The relations are friendly and exemplary,” said the Serbian minister and Erjavec added that “the two countries’ relations were open, even though there are still some unresolved issues such as the issue of former Yugoslavia’s inheritance”. Serbia, Slovenia have “exemplary relations” Mrkic on Friday started his working visit to Slovenia where he will also meet with Slovenian parliament Speaker Gregor Virant later today. The two foreign ministers told a press conference after the meeting that economic cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia was also good and Erjavec pointed to joint projects, such as South Stream gas pipeline. Today’s meetings represent a preparation for Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic’s visit to Slovenia on November 14. Serbia is taking all measures to halt all unfounded requests by its citizens for asylum in European Union states, Ivan Mrkic also stated. Mrkic said, however, that the measures “are limited by international (human rights) conventions.” “That is why we need the understanding of our neighbors and of those states that are the target of asylum seekers,” Mrkic told a joint news conference with his Slovenian counterpart in Ljubljana, AFP reported. Mrkic added that most asylum seekers were in fact economic migrants - people who “go there hoping to make money illegally". EU member states' police ministers discussed in Luxembourg Thursday a number of measures to prevent the visa liberalization abuse by false asylum seekers from the Western Balkans. They called for the adoption of a mechanism that would enable a temporary suspension of the visa free arrangements, according to a release issued after the Luxembourg meeting.
