BELGRADE Serbia is "falling apart" and the issue of Kosovo is"necessary so existential issues of the people do not have to be solved", Vuk Draskovic told B92. “The people are being fooled by stories about territorial sovereignty and integrity. There is no Serbia in Kosovo, there are the Serbian people, churches and monasteries,” the leader of the opposition Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) said. SPO leader: Kosovo is Serbia’s special neighbor According to him, it is in Serbia’s best interest to realize what it can and cannot do and to “start the widest normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo”. “We do not have to recognize Kosovo formally, it is hard for us that Kosovo is lost but it is lost,” Draskovic said and added that Serbia could only take Kosovo back through war “but the question is whether Serbia can go to war now and how it would end”. The SPO leader noted that “Kosovo is a special neighbor” and that Serbia should establish cultural, economic and other ties with Prstina. He said that “Serbia is waiting for its own Charles de Gaulle put an end to lies and deceptions”. “And the biggest one is that the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 guarantees our sovereignty and territorial integrity. Thanks to the resolution Serbia had to pull out all its authorities and administration from the territory of Kosovo. The resolution gave the Albanians the right to self-determination, which they used,” the SPO leader said. He added that it would be wise to accept the status-neutral part of the Ahtisaari plan. “It offers protection to Serbs, churches, monasteries, special ties of the Serb municipalities with the state of Serbia… It guarantees that every monastery is the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC). Serbian would be an official language, just like Albanian,” Draskovic stressed. He said that Serbia should accept EU’s position because “it is in our best interest”. The SPO leader said that Serbia had turned to Russia but that “we will not get Kosovo back with Russia and China”. Vuk Draskovic (B92) B92
