BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic made a “cardinal mistake“ by saying he expects the EU to change the controversial formulation about “Kosovo’s territorial integrity”. This is according to Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic. LDP leader says president made “cardinal mistake” “The president offered his own formulation, ‘respect of Kosovo’s territory’, which is allegedly better for Serbia. This is a cardinal mistake because it is based on the wrong idea that the Kosovo issue can be solved by interpreting things differently, by translating formulations differently to Serbian, Albanian or English,” he told daily Blic. The LDP leader said that it was nothing new that the government and the president were showing their patriotism in “topics we are destined to fail in advance”. According to him, the European Commission (EC) report on Serbia’s progress is a “diagnosis of missed chances and calculations in the past eight years and unwillingness to scratch beneath the surface and change something in reforms”. “The fact that there have been no political and economic measures that would bring us closer to Europe in the last nine months is horrible. The country was broken by elections, exhausted by the forming of the government and by wrong decisions of the new incompetent government in the past three months,” Jovanovic was quoted as saying. He said that Nikolic “lied to citizens that he will lead the country faster toward the EU and changes that are necessary”. “Now they are looking for an alibi that means the end of any idea of a normal life for seven million people in Serbia. We must not allow anyone to kill our future like that,” the LDP leader concluded. Cedomir Jovanovic (file) Blic Tanjug
