BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic told EU Commissioner Stefan Fule that the EU should change the part of an EC report referencing "Kosovo's territorial integrity". This should happen if the EU "really wants Serbia to join it", Nikolic was quoted as saying during his meeting on Thursday with the visiting EU official, in charge of the organization's enlargement policy. President wants EC "formulation" changed The EU would thus also prove "its commitment to the status-neutrality of Kosovo and Metohija", the Serbian president stated, according to his press service. Fule said that the formulation '"territorial integrity" does not prejudice the status, and added that this refers to the fact that Europe has been against the division of Kosovo ever since 2005, the release added. Nikolic and Fule both agreed that the situation in Kosovo is extremely delicate and that any formulation regarding the matter should be clearly specified. The two officials also discussed the possibility that Serbia starts the EU accession talks next year. Nikolic pointed out that Serbia does not want to postpone its EU accession by sweeping problems under the carpet, but rather wants to resolve them. The president stressed that Serbia was "doing everything to meet the conditions set by the EU, which it has proved by concrete results in the field of judicial reform, the fight against crime and corruption, and above all genuine willingness to normalize the relations between Belgrade and Pristina and resolve all issues through direct negotiations at the highest political level". Earlier in the day, Fule attended a session of the Serbian Parliament's Committee on EU Integration to say that the phrase "territorial integrity of Kosovo" would not be removed from the EC document.
