PRISTINA A Pristina government official has dubbed as "wrong and unrealistic" a statement made by an adviser to Kosovo's president regarding the Serbs in the north. Ramush Tahiri said last week that there were no "parallel" institutions there, describing them instead as "legitimate", and urging the institutions of Kosovo to engage in talks. Tahiri vs. Tahiri: Serb institutions "parallel" after all? But Edita Tahiri told Albanian language daily Express on Monday that this position was "wrong and unrealistic". "This position is wrong. I believe it was an erroneous statement. Serbia's illegal meddling in Kosovo's internal affairs has been taking place since the end of the war," said Edita Tahiri, and added: "Serbia has so far been, against all international conventions and resolutions of the UN, trampling on EU standards." Tahiri, who also had the role of Pristina's negotiator in the EU-sponsored Kosovo dialogue launched in March 2011, went on to say that "Belgrade was doing that also in the process of EU integrations, because principles of good neighborly relations and regional cooperation are the two main conditions for membership in the EU." The north of Kosovo is predominantly inhabited by Serbs, who reject the authority of the government in Pristina and the ethnic Albanian unilateral declaration of independence made in early 2008, and function as part of Serbia's government system.
