BELGRADE German Foreign Ministry has stated that Germany is not understanding about the Serbian authorities’ decision to ban the gay Pride Parade. “We received the news of the sudden cancellation of the Pride Parade that was planned for this Saturday in Belgrade with great concern. We are not sympathetic to the fact that the Serbian authorities are not capable of ensuring safety for the Pride Parade participants again this year,” the German ministry stressed. We therefore call on the Serbian government to penalize violence and threats against representatives of the LGBT population and their manifestations and hold instigators responsible,” reads the statement. The release adds that German Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Southeast Europe Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff invited the Serbian ambassador in Berlin on Friday to a meeting in order to inform him about “Germany’s concern and expectations”.
