BELGRADE A partition of Kosovo is a rational solution, but it is no longer possible, Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Suzana Grubjesic said on Monday. She told B92 that the partition was no longer possible because those who decide on it, the U.S. and the international community, did not want it. Deputy PM on Kosovo, EU integration "My party also stated for many years that Kosovo should be partitioned, but that has been opposed by the most powerful countries. It could have been done 5 or 6 years ago because the atmosphere in the international circles was good for something like that," Grubjesic, a United Regions of Serbia (URS) official, explained. "This government, just like the preceding one, will not recognize Kosovo, but we have to start a process of normalizing the relations, and not only because of us here and because it does not enable us to continue the EU integration in a way we would like to, but also because of our people who live down there," she noted. Commenting on EU integration, she said the government in little under 60 days of being in power had made important steps to get a more positive annual European Commission report on Serbia's progress in EU integration and improve Serbia's chances of getting the start date for the accession talks. According to her, Serbia will have a new chance to get a date for the beginning of the negotiations next spring. Talking about the expectations regarding the European Commission report, Grubjesic pointed out that it would not contain surprises and would state that Serbia had not moved forward during the six months that were needed to organize the general elections and form the government, and so 2012 could not be termed a year of EU integration.
