Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić will depart for New York on Sunday where he will attend a session of the United National General Assembly (UNGA).

BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will depart for New York on Sunday where he will attend a session of the United National General Assembly (UNGA). He is also set to hold a number of bilateral meetings mainly in relation to Kosovo and Metohija and economic issues. Serbian president departs for New York Marko Djuric, Serbian president's foreign policy advisor, said that during the plenary session, which will take place from September 25 to October 1, Nikolic will confer with a great number of heads of UN member states, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. “The talks with Ashton will certainly table general cooperation between Serbia and the EU, and ongoing political issues, including the political process between Belgrade and Pristina,” Djuric told Tanjug. This year, Serbia has a great honor to have its president as the third speaker, and its former Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic as chairman of the UNGA, he said. Djuric said that a well-planned visit may open new fields of cooperation both with the countries with which Serbia already has good relations, and with the ones with which these relations have not been developed for various reasons. “This will be a great opportunity to open cooperation with the countries with which we do not have often contacts, and we will not miss the opportunity to do that,” Djuric said. The UNGA plenary session will be opened on Tuesday. The topic of the debate by choice of Chairman Vuk Jeremcc will be resolution of international conflicts by peaceful means. Marko Đurić, Serbian president's foreign policy advisor, said that during the plenary session, which will take place from September 25 to October 1, Nikolić will confer with a great number of heads of UN member states, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
