BELGRADE Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic received the U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick in a farewell visit on Thursday in Belgrade. Warlick assessed that the rule of law, judiciary reform and the continuation of the talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are important for Serbia's European integration. U.S. ambassador in farewell meetings with officials Warlick expressed an interest in draft laws which the Serbian parliament would table in the coming period, the parliament stated in a release, but special interest was showed as regards the budget review and the Law on Public Procurement. Stefanovic informed the U.S. diplomat about some of the solutions which constitute a part of measures aimed at overcoming the difficult economic situation and budget deficit left behind by the previous government which does not fall within the reforms envisaged in the law. The parliament speaker also raised the issue of the security of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija in the light of the so-called supervised independence. He also drew attention to the fact that the attacks on Serbs to the north and south of the Ibar River have become more frequent over the past few days and that some statements of the Pristina government constitute a reason for concern. He underscored that Serbia will maintain a constructive stand in the future talks with Pristina, and illustrated this by the stand of the Serbian top officials, according to which the agreements which the previous government reached in Brussels. First Deputy PM and Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vucic also met with Mary Warlick on Thursday. Vucic said that the Serbian government will continue to cooperate with the United States in order to further improve relations between the two countries in all fields. Warlick underlined that over the past two years a lot has been achieved in terms of bilateral relations and progress in the EU integration process, noting that in this matter Serbia has full support of the United States.
