NOVI SAD The Serb Progressives (SNS) have accused the Democrats (DS) and the Radicals (SRS) in Novi Sad of carrying out "a shameful obstruction" in the city assembly. The two parties, the SNS alleges, have teamed up "in their desire to keep Igor Pavlicic (DS) in his post as mayor of Novi Sad". SNS accuses rivals of "obstruction" in Novi Sad The Novi Sad city assembly is meeting today, and is expected to replace Pavlicic with a mayor from the newly formed local coalition, gathered around the SNS. "It is incredible that the Democrats and the Radicals are passionately defending their privileges, without recognizing the democratic will of the citizens, and of the Novi Sad city assembly councilors. It is today completely clear that there is a coalition in Serbia that is made up of the Democrats and their satellites, led by the Radicals," charged the SNS in statement issued on Wednesday afternoon. The party added that it would, "regardless of everything", continue to fight for changes, and that it would "beat the corruption and show that Novi Sad and Serbia can and wish to do much better". The city assembly session in Novi Sad was postponed and resumed several times today, with current Assembly President Aleksandra Jerkov saying this was done "because party security personnel had entered the room". The councilors spent much of the session thus far in exhausting debates on procedural issues, and in mutual accusations, and starting the discussion on the proposal tabled by the newly formed local majority to sack Mayor Pavlicic only in the evening.
