BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic told visiting Russian Deputy FM Vladimir Titov that he would like to see economic cooperation with Russia even more improved. Speaking in Belgrade on Thursday, the president added that conditions should be created to increase Russia's investments in the Serbian economy. Nikolic also said at the meeting that Serbia wants to become part of the European Union, but that partnership with the Russian Federation is equally significant and of strategic importance for the country. Titov concurred about the need for Serbian and Russia to forge a strategic partnership. In this regard, Russia is aware that Serbia is facing great economic difficulties and is ready to consider providing significant support to Serbia until the end of the year and in 2013, the statement reads. President Nikolic thanked his guest for Russia's principled policy on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, and also for the assistance given to Serbia in fighting recent wildfires. Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic also met with Vladimir Titov today, and the two officials discussed the possibilities for improving the two countries' mutual cooperation, budgetary assistance to help reduce Serbia's budget deficit and opportunities for Russian investments in Serbia. Dacic pointed to the need of boosting the trade between Serbia and Russia, which totaled USD 2.5 billion last year, whereas before the economic crisis it amounted to four billions. Titov extended a formal invitation to Dacic to take part in the marking the beginning of works on the South Stream pipeline, a statement by the Serbian government's office for media says.
