BELGRADE The Serbian government "will not recognize Kosovo's independence", Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has been quoted as saying. “We will clearly state what we can do on the accession path to the EU, which is expected not to shift the goalposts,” he added. PM Dacic: We will not recognize Kosovo “The statement by European Parliament President Martin Schulz was misinterpreted. Serbia will not recognize Kosovo,” Dacic told Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti after a visit to Brussels, during which he received strong support from European officials for Serbia's further EU approach. The prime minister said that the messages were very clear both from our and from the EU side. “The EU welcomed the positions of the Serbian government in view of continuation of the European path. They clearly stated that the European integration will mostly depend on Serbia itself that is fulfillment of preconditions that the European Council set in December 2011,” he explained. “This mostly refers to internal reforms and visible signs of relaxation of the Belgrade-Pristina relations, which implies implementation of agreements that have been reached and an attempt to agree on the remaining issues in the technical dialogue, including functioning of EULEX, which should be deployed in the entire territory of Kosovo,” Dacic was quoted as saying. He said that the Serbian government would clearly, with no pretense whatsoever, state what it coulc do, while on the other hand it expected the EU not to shift the goalposts that set preconditions that change all the time. “As a result, there should be no new preconditions for Serbia when it comes to the date for the beginning of talks. Serbia expects the EU to clearly state the goal of the race that we are running,” the Serbian prime minister concluded. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug, file) Tanjug Vecernje novosti
