BELGRADE A bill will be passed in September that will enable the election of directors of public enterprises through open competitions. This is according to Finance and Economy Ministry’s State Secretary Vlajko Senic. “Highest salaries in public sector to be cut soon” He added that a bill determining the maximum earnings limit in the public sector would be passed this month. “The new bill will regulate the way in which directors are elected by public companies, because professionalization is very important for the improvement of the companies' operations,” Senic told Tanjug. Commenting on the public sector's maximum earnings limit bill, he said that citizens were justifiably unhappy with the fact that earnings in certain funds and agencies were too high at a time when the whole of Serbia was barely surviving. “The bill determining the maximum earnings limit in the public sector will limit the salaries paid to directors, managers, agency directors,” he said, adding that it would also “adjust the salaries of the people who work in these institutions.” “It will also facilitate important savings to be made, which the Finance Ministry will use to start payments of the announced 13th pension for the most endangered retirees,” he said. “The Finance Ministry expects the parliament to debate in September on dozens of bills that the ministry has proposed and expects effects to be seen as early as in October,” the state secretary noted. Senic stressed that the drafting of the bill amending the Law on Public Procurement was underway and it should also be in the parliament procedure soon. Vlajko Senic Tanjug
