BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has proposed that Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) official Jorgovanka Tabakovic be the new National Bank of Serbia governor. Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic has stated that a session at which MPs should elect the new central bank chief will be held at 10:00 CET on Monday. The president noted in the letter that he also submitted Tabakovic’s resume and her consent to be a candidate for the NBS governor. Stefanovic, who scheduled the session for Monday morning, told B92 that he had nothing against Tabakovic being the new NBS chief. Parliament adopted the changes to the law on the central bank on Saturday. Nikolić’s letter to the speaker, proposing the candidate for the governor, has been published on the Serbian parliament’s webpage.

Stefanović, who scheduled the session for Monday morning, told B92 that he had nothing against Tabaković being the new NBS chief.

Former NBS Governor Dejan Šoškić resigned on Thursday, explaining that the changes to the law would jeopardize the central bank’s work.
