BELGRADE Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) acting leader Aleksandar Vucic has said that the combat against corruption and crime will start at the top of the government. He added that no one would be protected. SNS leader announces top-down combat against corruption "Those who have not worked at all and gained their wealth dishonestly will be tried first," he told daily Vecernje novosti. Those people have "usurped their office to such an extent that no one can tolerate it anymore," he stated, adding that the crucial thing to him was "the voice of the people who yearn for corruption, which has reached unbelievable proportions in Serbia, to be reduced to a tolerable level as soon as possible." “Successfully dealing with the huge budget deficit and the Kosovo issue and a fierce battle against crime and corruption are the most important things for the country to survive,” Vucic noted, adding that Serbia "must not and cannot remain as poor as it is today. We must make life easier for the Kosovo Serbs, and a fierce battle against crime and corruption is a requirement without which the country cannot move forward." “Serbia in 2012 is a country on the verge of poverty and on the bottom of the list of European countries in terms of financial indicators,” he stated. "The people struggle. They have been robbed and want to hear the names of those who got rich quickly and to have it explained to them if it was done to their detriment," the future defense minister explained. Vucic denied that the SNS had brought back some people from the era of Slobodan Milosevic and the Yugoslav Left (JUL), stressing that it was something the previous government had done.
