BELGRADE Serbia's PM-Designate Ivica Dacic said late Tuesday at parliament that his government would be both the smallest since 1990 and the most efficient. "I want the public to know this government will have 17 ministries and 19 members and will be the smallest since 1990, and hopefully the most efficient," he said during a parliamentary debate on the bills on ministries, security services and the government. “New government will be smallest since 1990” Dacic added that the laws on government and on ministries had been changed many times because there was no systematic solution nor European standards regarding how many departments a government should have. "It is no secret that this law has always been changed when a new government is formed," he pointed out. The future PM dismissed criticism from the opposition over management of parliamentary committees, noting it was the Democratic Party (DS) which put an end to the practice of handing the most important committees to opposition MPs. Noting that the future government needed to be efficient and "must not be feudal in character," Dacic said it would respect the parliament and that he would be present there whenever needed.
