BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has said that he can guarantee for the safety of former President Boris Tadic. Commenting on the latest information of security services that the safety of the leader of the Democratic Party is in jeopardy, Nikolic told Belgrade-based daily Press that he had informed Tadic that his family would be equally well-protected as his own. Nikolic promises full protection to ex-president Nikolic added that he owed that to the person who beat him in the elections twice. Nikolic underscored that he had promised protection to Tadic immediately upon appointment as the president and that his stand on the issue of the former president's safety had not changed. "How can I not protect Tadic? This is not a possibility," Nikolic stressed. Darko Saric, who is being tried in absentia for trafficking cocaine from South America to Europe, offered EUR 10mn for the murder of the people he believes are responsible for the break up of his gang. It has been confirmed to B92 that Tadic, Justice Minister Snezana Malovic, Security-Information Agency (BIA) Director Sasa Vukadinovic, Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic and Council for National Security Coordination Bureau President Miodrag Rakic are on the list. Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) acting leader Aleksandar Vucic warned criminals not to make threats against former state officials, stressing that the country would seriously fight against crime and corruption. He added that “it is very dangerous that some criminals think that it is possible that things in Serbia will be solved in their favor in a moment while the government still is not formed or that they will maybe have allies in some future government”.
