BELGRADE The Constitutional Court’s decision to declare parts of the Law on Establishing Jurisdiction of Vojvodina is political, says Bojan Pajtic. The Vojvodina Executive Council chairman stressed that the decision was more political than legal. “Constitutional Court’s decision on Vojvodina is political” “The Constitutional Court has compromised itself with the act but also an idea of building independent institutions. As a jurist I can agree with some segments of the decision but some parts are paradoxical and are contrary to the international conventions that our state has ratified and that are therefore above the internal law. They are embarrassing us in the eyes of the international community because all of this,” he explained. According to him, one of the examples is a decision that disputes transfer of provincial jurisdiction to national councils. He explained that according to the decision, the province’s jurisdiction was being extended while rights of the ethnic minorities were being violated. Pajtic told daily Politika that it was a unique case in Europe that the Constitutional Court would reduce the acquired rights of the ethnic minorities. The Constitutional Court disputed around 20 regulations of the Law on Establishing Jurisdiction of Vojvodina, including the ones that Novi Sad is a capital of the province and that Vojvodina can have its office in Brussels. “A big problem is the fact that the Constitutional Court is getting into some qualifications that absolutely have no normative character. They even declared qualification that European values are cherished in Vojvodina unconstitutional,” the Vojvodina Executive Council chairman pointed out. Commenting on the fact that the court decided that Vojvodina could not have its office in Brussels, he said that he would not allow anyone to continue to embarrass Serbia abroad and that he would not allow the citizens of Vojvodina to be deprived of their right to development that all regions in Europe, and even Serbian cities of Nis and Kragujevac, had.
