Defense minister buys "arable land" in downtown Belgrade

A plot of land that Dragan Šutanovac and nine other investors bought in Belgrade's central municipality of Vračar was classed as "arable land".

A plot of land that Dragan Sutanovac and nine other investors bought in Belgrade's central municipality of Vracar was classed as "arable land". This is according to the whistleblowing website Pistaljka, which also reported that the defense minister and high ranking Democratic Party official and other investors - who intend to build a luxury residential and business building at the location - paid EUR 1.5mn for the land. The contract itself was signed by buyers Gordan and Dragan Petric and Predrag Djordjevic, and Milos Rutovic and Tresnja d.o.o. company Deputy Director Zivomit Radosavljevic, who sold the plot of land. Predrag Djordjevic was given the power of attorney by Nenad Djordjevic and signed the contract on his behalf, while Dragan Petric did the same for eight other investors - Dragan Sutanovac and his wife included. The buyers obligated themselves to pay EUR 1.5mn to the accounts of Tresnja d.o.o. and Milos Rutovic (EUR 750,000 to each) within ten days of registering their ownership over the real estate. The website says that considering that, according to the contract, all investors were required to make the paymentl, "this opens up a series of interesting questions both for Sutanovac and the Anti-Corruption Agency". The remark concerns statements Sutanovac made on previous occasions, when he said that he was "yet to take out a loan from a commercial bank", and in this way secure the money for his share in the investment. "I still did not give the money. I expect that by the end of the year, when I finalize the loan, I will close the financial construction. That is my agreement with those investors who already invested their money," Sutanovac told Belgrade-based daily Politika, when the controversy first came to light last month.
