Daily Vecernje novosti writes that Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic will not have an opponent in the party elections. Daily Blic on the other hand claims that by criticizing Vuk Jeremic, Dragan Djilas is sending a message to Tadic. Belgrade dailies on conflicts among Democrats Blic’s source says that the elections in the DS are unavoidable now that Tadic lost the presidential election and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) decided to form the government with the Progressives. The source claims that there had been “timid proposals” after the elections that Tadic could resign as the party leader. On the other hand, after a convincing victory in Belgrade, Djilas naturally came out as a future leader of the party. However, Tadic has already stated that he is not planning on resigning, which according to the daily's source means that the DS will have a general election. Blic writes that an open conflict between Djilas and Jeremic represents a struggle for power in the party. Jeremic is one of Tadic's biggest supporters, but he has found himself between a rock and a hard place after government approved him USD 2.9mn for his office in New York that he will use during his UN General Assembly Presidency, the daily writes. According to Blic, Djilas took advantage of the situation, started an open conflict with Jeremic and sent a message to Tadic. On the other hand, daily Danas writes that top DS officials are angry at Jeremic for his “overly public reaction” to Djilas’ criticism. According to Danas’ source, the party gave a green light to Djilas to respond to Jeremic as he sees fit and even force him to leave the party. However, DS official Borislav Stefanovic claims that the DS will not break up. He told daily Vecernje novosti that there was no struggle for power in the party but that a major reshuffle would happen in the DS. “There is no mystery. I repeat, the party is not breaking up, it is being reorganized,” Stefanovic explained. Dragan Djilas and Boris Tadic (Tanjug, file) Blic Danas Tanjug Vecernje novosti
