Councilors of four northern Kosovo municipalities assessed at a joint session on Thursday that the security situation had drastically deteriorated. They pointed out that representatives of the international community were solely responsible for it. K. Serb reps warn of deteriorating security in north Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Krstimir Pantic assessed that the international missions were obligated to secure a peaceful and safe life to all citizens but that they were not acting in accordance with the international norms and laws, UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Kumanovo Agreement from 1999. “Current KFOR Commander Erhard Drews could not resist the Albanians’ pressure either and he is in the end of his mandate, just like his predecessor, making rash moves that are seriously endangering peace, security and lives of KFOR members and citizens in northern Kosovo and Metohija who do not want and will never accept to live in the so-called state of Kosovo,” he explained. The Kosovska Mitrovica mayor pointed to a recent series of “dangerous incidents” and added that KFOR and Kosovo police were solely responsible for them. He requested from the KFOR commander to immediately deploy forces that would secure the Kosovska Mitrovica municipal building and the neighborhood of Tri solitera and prevent possible incidents. The Kosovska Mitrovica municipal building was stoned around midnight on Thursday but nobody was injured in the incident. Zvecan and Zubin Potok Mayors Dragisa Milovic and Slavisa Ristic and councilors Milan Ivanovic and Goran Lazovic agreed with Pantic. The Kosovska Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic councilors concluded that all open issues needed to be solved with political and peaceful means, instead with force and pressure. They warned KFOR and EULEX representatives to stop expanding and strengthening jurisdiction of unrecognized Republic of Kosovo because it was not a part of their mandate. They strongly condemned a plan to open the Kosovo government’s office in northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica on July 9. The participants of the meeting believe that the attempt will fail because the citizens said in the February 15 referendum that they did not want Kosovo Albanian institutions and that they would never accept them. The councilors called on the citizens to ignore the office and urged all those who found jobs there to resign as soon as possible and not give legitimacy to the “quasi-institution”. They expect the Serbian parliament to be constituted and the government to be formed soon and point out that they should have “pro-Serbian orientation”, responsibly implement the state and national policy and jointly discuss all important issues. The councilors pointed out that the government and parliament needed to “have a responsible and united approach”.
