All the parties involved in the talks on the new government have agreed to Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic’s conditions, daily Kurir writes. Dacic opposes the idea that wages and pensions should be frozen. “All parties agree to Socialists’ conditions” According to the daily, even the United Regions of Serbia (URS) softened its stance and gave up on the request to increase VAT so the government could be formed. The Socialists and Democrats’ positions are currently the most similar. SPS deputy leader Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic told the daily that all the parties had accepted the SPS’ request not to freeze wages and pensions and agreed that money needed to be saved elsewhere. “The state needs to cut down its spending. The future government, whoever forms it, needs to work as a team. The parties need to give their best people for the most responsible jobs,” she was quoted as saying. Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader Dragan Djilas also agrees that the state needs to reduce the spending. “The government must not adopt measures that will ‘kill’ the domestic spending. It needs to secure a stable rate of dinar and introduce more order and work,” he stressed. The URS proposed a radical scaling down of the state administration and expenses at all levels instead of the freezing of wages and pensions. The Progressives are also ready to fulfill Dacic’s conditions and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) acting leader Aleksandar Vucic claims that they have never called for the freezing of wages and pensions and the increase in VAT. “We are not in favor of measures that will directly affect the drop in citizens’ standard of living. We can save money by reducing the number of ministries and agencies,” he pointed out. Ivica Dacic Kurir
