EU mediator in the Kosovo dialogue Robert Cooper welcomed on Wednesday "Serbia's readiness to negotiate key issues at a higher level". This is according to a statement issued by the office of the president of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic. President's adviser meets with EU mediator Cooper was received in Belgrade by Nikolic's adviser Marko Djuric, who stated afterwards that it was important for the public in Serbia to be fully informed about all aspects of the agreements reached and the political prospects for resolving the Kosovo and Metohija issue. The statement says that the discussions held up to now are an essential element for achieving consensus among the relevant political factors in Serbia over Kosovo and Metohija. This is one of the goals of the president and an essential precondition for protecting the interests of the Republic of Serbia in Kosovo and Metohija, Djuric said. Today's meeting sent a clear message that ensuring peace and security for all citizens who live in the province is absolutely imperative, the statement concluded. Speaking for Beta news agency, Djuric said that "negotiations are now not being conducted only about technical, but also about political questions." "This is the right way to get close to a solution that satisfies our state and national interests," said the president's adviser. He added that he would "inform Nikolic in detail" about today's meeting. The president is currently out of the country, attending a UN conference in Brazil.
