The United Regions of Serbia (URS) have received "an excellent" offer from the Serb Progressives (SNS) to form a government together. This is according to local Belgrade television outlet Prva TV. "URS receives excellent offer from Progressives" The report claims that the URS - led by Mladjan Dinkic - would "benefit more" if the ongoing negotiations between the Democrats (DS) and the Socialists (SPS) were to fail. The Progressives offered the URS "a significant number of ministries" in a future cabinet, according to the report, including "all economic portfolios", as well as ministries for regional development, local self-government, EU integration and health. The party, however, is saying that the forming of a government "does not depend on them", considering that "unlike others, they are not offering themselves to anyone", and adding that they held "serious talks" so far only with the SPS-led coalition. That coalition on Sunday announced that they and the URS agreed to "represent joint political goals in various segments of the policy", and this was welcomed by the Liberal-Democrats (LDP) - whom the Democrats hope will be a fourth partner in a government. However, said the report, a parliamentary majority is still not certain "due to the big demands of the URS when it comes to the influence they would have in a new government. The Progressives are in the meanwhile saying that any government that excluded them would "not be legitimate", and that the party - which won most mandates in Serbia's new parliament - 73 - was not to blame that almost a month and a half after the elections, the country was still without a new cabinet.
