Municipal assemblies will be constituted in northern Kosovo municipalities of Zvecan and Zubin Potok on Wednesday. Local elections were held in the two northern Kosovo municipalities on May 6 despite the fact that the Belgrade authorities were against it. Local assemblies to be formed in northern Kosovo The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) won the majority of votes in Zvecan, followed by the United Regions of Serbia (URS), Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)-Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS)-United Serbia (JS) coalition, Serb National Council of Northern Kosovo (SNV) and Serb Radical Party (SRS). Zubin Potok Assembly Speaker Stevan Bozovic told B92 that the session would be held at noon. The DSS won the majority of votes in Zubin Potok as well, but according to Bozovic, all parties will have an opportunity to take part in the municipal authorities. Commenting on the announcements from Belgrade that temporary councils will be formed in northern Kosovo and that results of the local elections will be disregarded, he said that such decision would be anti-constitutional. “So far nobody has informed us officially that they will introduce councils or coordinators. In our opinion, even if they do introduce them, it can only be an illegal political decision because we held the elections in accordance with the law,“ Bozovic explained. According to earlier announcements, the political-security situation in the north of the province will be discussed at the beginning of the sessions in Zvecan and Zubin Potok. B92

The DSS won the majority of votes in Zubin Potok as well, but according to Božović, all parties will have an opportunity to take part in the municipal authorities.
