Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic says "there is no doubt" that the leader of the Democrats (DS), Boris Tadic, is "the best man for the job of Serbia's prime minister". The outgoing parliament speaker and acting president spoke in her role of one of vice-presidents of the Socialists Party of Serbia (SPS). SPS deputy leader: Tadic best solution for next PM Boris Tadic on Sunday lost his bid to be elected Serbia's president for a third time, and said the same night he would not be the next PM, but speculation emerged in the meantime that his party wished for him to now take the premiership. The Democrats won 67 seats in the new parliament, while the Progressives (SNS), led by Serbia's new president, Tomislav Nikolic, have 73. Ivica Dacic's Socialists will have 44 mandates. "I think that Boris Tadic is, as far as the DS goes, the best solution. Tadic is a man who undoubtedly has excellent communication with officials of the region and the world," Djukic-Dejanovic told the Belgrade-based tabloid Press. She further praised him as a man who "knows the essence of the problem and political goings-on in Serbia", while she said it went in favor that he is a former president. The daily is reporting that while the Democrats were "on the verge of deciding in favor of this option, Tadic is yet to make that decision". Last night, Dacic's pre-election SPS-PUPS-JS alliance met to discuss its strategy related to the talks on the formation of Serbia's new government. Dacic said that the coalition was yet to reach any agreement to form a parliamentary majority with others, "because no party had sent its proposal to form a government". He noted that the SPS was not the one "holding up" this process, but that they were waiting for the DS to name its candidate for the job of Serbia's new PM. In the meantime, Nikolic, in his role of president-elect, will fist give his party official Jorgovanka Tabakovic a chance to put together a cabinet, considering that the SNS-led coalition will have the mosts seats in parliament. Should she fail, Nikolic will give this mandate to the Democrats. Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic (Tanjug, file) Press
