Leader of New Serbia (NS) Velimir Ilic believes that the biggest parliamentary party will be the first to get a chance to form Serbia's next government. Ilic and his party were allied in a pre-election coalition with Tomislav Nikolic's Serb Progressives (SNS). In the presidential runoff on May 20, Nikolic became Serbia's president. NS leader: Biggest party should get chance to form govt. "I expect that Nikolic will stick to the etiquette and entrust the biggest party with the mandate for setting up the government. If the party fails, he should than offer the mandate to the second-rated, and in case it fails as well, he should offer the task to the third-rated party," Ilic said. He pointed out that, if the government was not formed in three attempts, fresh parliamentary elections would be called. In the May 6 parliamentary vote, the SNS coalition won 73 seats, the coalition led by the Democrats (DS) won 67 seats, while the Socialists (SPS) and their coalition placed third with 44 seats. Speaking on Monday, Ilic voiced his belief that after Nikolic's victory "Serbia will face great changes", and compared the new president with Russia's Vladimir Putin, saying he was convinced Nikolic would revive Serbia, as Putin had revived Russia. Ilic added that the SNS-led coalition did not hold any formal talks on forming the government with other parties, since, as he put it, "there was an agreement within the coalition to discuss the issue after the second round of presidential elections". Asked whether a coalition with Ivica Dacic's Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) was an option, Ilic said that "everyone who accepts the program of the winning coalition is welcome to the government".
