Aleksandar Vucic says Boris Tadic and the Democratic Party (DS) used legal, political and other forms of violence to destroy independent institutions. On May 20, Tadic will seek his third term in office in the presidential runoff. He will run against SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic, who last week accused the ruling party of committing election fraud, and later vowed to "physically defend each ballot in the second round". "Democrats and their leader ruined institutions" Today, Vucic, who is deputy leader of the Serb Progressives (SNS), qualified Nikolic's statement as "normal", and added this was because "every vote is sacred, just like our children and our Church". "It is normal that he will defend every vote. It is the followers of Boris Tadic who advocate violence and fight for violence and crime. I suppose theft is violence, and we will defend our vote because every vote is as sacred for us as the church and our children," Vucic told a news conference in Belgrade on Tuesday. Vucic said he "cannot qualify a single institution as independent and working in the interest of the citizens and the state": "Today every institution works directly to the benefit of Boris Tadic and oligarchs from the DS," he stressed. Vucic believes the situation is the same in all public companies, the Constitutional Court, as well as in "false, allegedly independent anti-corruption agencies, and councils of broadcasting agencies". "Tadic and friends managed to ruin all institutions. They gained power through violence by setting the parliament building on fire (on October 5, 2000), beating up the (state) television director, while there was never any violence from Nikolic," said his party deputy. Vucic also once again accused the media of being controlled by the Democratic Party. Aleksandar Vucic (Tanjug) Beta Tanjug
