KFOR Commander Erhard Drews has stated that additional 700 NATO troops are expected to arrive in Kosovo by Friday. He did not want to comment on the reasons why the additional troops will be deployed or to specify where they will be stationed. “700 soldiers to be deployed to Kosovo by Friday” It was announced earlier by Berlin and Vienna that reinforcement, consisting of Operational Reserve Forces (ORF) troops, would be sent to KFOR ahead of the Serbian elections that should be held on May 6. According to the announcement, the German and Austrian ORF troops will be stationed at checkpoints in Kosovska Mitrovica and in Albanian villages in northern Kosovo. The plan envisages that 550 German and 150 Austrian soldiers be deployed to the line separating the ethnic communities in northern Kosovo. B92
