Kosovo police arrested Kosovo District Head Goran Arsic on Saturday and was remanded in custody for 48 hours. Red Cross of Serbia employee Novica Zivic was arrested together with Arsic. Kosovo District head arrested by KPS Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi has confirmed that the Kosovo police arrested Arsic and that he was remanded in custody for 48 hours. The two men were arrested on suspicion that they threatened several Serbs, Rexhepi said. Arsic and Zivic allegedly told them that they had to take part in the Serbian elections and that they would otherwise be arrested the moment they entered Serbia. Arsic and Zivic were at a football game in Lipljan where they first got into a verbal and then in a physical fight after which they were arrested, Kosovo police has stated, adding that their homes were searched at the prosecutor’s proposal. Beta news agency has learnt that a Democratic Party (DS) stamp that was used in the last Serbian elections in Kosovo was found in Arsic’s house. Zivic's son Dejan claims that Arsic and his father are accused of undermining Kosovo's legal order. He explained after visiting Arsic and his father in the Lipljan police station that a group of men first provoked and then physically attacked Arsic and Zivic at the football game on Saturday. Serbia’s Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic has stated that the motive for the Kosovo District head’s arrest was further intimidation of Serbs in Kosovo. “It is high time for EULEX to react because this is starting to look more and more like March 17, 2004,” he pointed out. According to the Serbian minister, tensions and violence are rising ahead of the Serbian elections that will be held on May 6. The two men were arrested on suspicion that they threatened several Serbs, Rexhepi said.

Arsić and Živić allegedly told them that they had to take part in the Serbian elections and that they would otherwise be arrested the moment they entered Serbia.
