"Political neutrality is realistic option"

Democratic Party of Serbia presidential candidate Vojislav Kostunica says the DSS program of political neutrality is realistic, achievable, and sustainable. In an interview for Tanjug, Kostunica said that before any post-election calculations, he would like to hear the citizens' opinion on the idea of political neutrality. "Political neutrality is realistic option" Commenting possible coalition partners, Kostunica said that he will think about that after the May 6 elections, adding that the same refers to the presidential elections as it is too early to say who will get his support in case he does not reach the second round. According to him, the DSS is offering a very simple idea focusing on the possibility of Serbia's strengthening and development without the EU. The true feeling of the citizens in terms of the EU integration process can be expressed only at a fair referendum, Kostunica said. As Kostunica puts it, the political neutrality, which is the focus of his presidential campaign, is a reflection of the general opinion that Serbia should take a different direction, not become an EU member, and establish free cooperation with all states in line with its interests. “This means that it should cooperate with the EU and all its members, but not in a manner it did - submissively and to the detriment of people,” Kostunica underlined. “The price of the EU pathway in the last four years was more than obvious in terms of salaries and pensions, Serbia's indebtedness, and the catastrophic state of industry and agriculture,” Kostunica said. He added that the losses Serbia suffered on the EU pathway are numerous and threatening to its territorial integrity, including gradual secession and seizure of Kosovo, bringing into question Serbia's internal organization through adoption of illegal statute of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, the Declaration on Srebrenica, etc. The losses also came from the application of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, resulting in hundreds of millions of loss and hundreds of our companies closed, the DSS leader said.
